Ah yes, morality in computing. Something I addressed in my thesis CHI paper (Technology as an Extension of Self)
An interesting article recently published in Science Daily, Moral Machines, examines the inspiration behind why the idea of morality in association with computing has become a concern of the modern era (basically, that things of science fiction are rapidly becoming that of fact, and we’re all afraid of being destroyed by SkyNET).
The article then goes on to discuss the implications of associating “human” morality with technology, and how we are capable of teaching our computing devices to “think and feel” as we do. But really, isn’t that what caused HAL, SkyNET, and other crazy science fiction AI’s to mass murder? Just a thought.
